Ministries within Our Parish

Besides our regular participation in the Liturgical services of our church, I encourage you, along with your family, to get involved in as many groups as you can throughout the year. Please check our weekly bulletin, the monthly newsletter, The Messenger and our website for upcoming events in all of the following ministries. May we always be united as a congregation, and may we continue to grow in the Knowledge and Grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Fr. Costas Keares

Philoptochos ~ The Friends of the Poor is the philanthropic arm of the parish. This group of volunteers supports outreach programs in the Archdiocese, Diocese, and local parish. Its volunteers form an active part of life in the local community and have individually and collectively been strong supporters of the church throughout the years.

Senior Fellowship ~ This group sponsors gatherings and activities for those in their golden years, 55 and above. Their activities have included a monthly gathering called the Kafenio, at 2:00 p.m., on the last Thursday of each month, along with luncheons and trips.

Adult Fellowship ~ This group is geared towards those who fall in between the youth and the seniors for fellowship and opportunities to focus on marriage, family and spiritual growth.

Festival ~ A major event in our parish which brings our parishioners together in fellowship and to raise funds for the ministries of our community. During the days of the festival we have the blessing to welcome among us many guests from the great Cleveland community who enjoy our Greek cuisine and customs. The dates for this year’s festival are July 15-18, 2010.

Orthodox Catechism ~ This class is open to Orthodox Christians who would like to deepen their understanding of the teachings of our faith, for anyone seeking to know about this ancient faith, for anyone planning to get married in our church and for anyone wanting to be Chrismated Orthodox. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings with sessions being held in the Fall and Spring. We will study the book "Introducing the Orthodox Church, Its Faith and Life" , by Fr. Anthony Coniaris.

Women's Study Group ~ This year the group will use the book series “ A Year of our Lord Liturgical Bible Studies ,” which uses the Epistle and Gospel readings for the Sunday’s of the Church Year, and explanations are provided as to how they apply to our everyday life. This study group will meet on Tuesdays from 10:00-11:30 a.m. All women in the parish are welcome.

Bible Study ~ This study group meets every Thursday evening from 7:30-8:45 p.m. Frank Chirakos, under the guidance of Fr. Costas, selects themes and provides instruction in the Scriptures. “ The Orthodox Study Bible ” is the text of the scripture which is used, which includes footnotes from an Orthodox perspective. Frank leads the class through both the Old and New Testament to explore the particular topics.

Sunday School ~ The goal of this very important ministry in our parish is to teach our Orthodox faith to our children. ALL children from Preschool, all the way up to 12 th grade, should be enrolled in the program without exception. Their regular attendance is imperative as they grow in knowledge of their faith. The classes begin immediately after the reception of Holy Communion in the classrooms down stairs. We are grateful to a great team of volunteers who give so generously of their time and talents.

Hellenic Dancers ~ It is comprised of three groups: Beginners, Junior and Seniors. They perform traditional Greek dances at special events and especially during our Annual Grecian Festival.

Young Adult League (YAL) ~ Fellowship, Service, Witness, and Worship are the four pillars of this ministry. In trying to revive this group, we are joining other Orthodox Young Adults from the greater Cleveland area for various events. Different churches have hosted meetings and we hope that others will join us so that we too may host a gathering. Come and share your time and talents with us as we meet other Orthodox Christians in our area.

GOYA ~ This group is comprised of our 7th through 12th grade parishioners. They participate in religious, social and athletic events. An example of some of their activities include attending the Metropolis summer camp, retreats, basketball tournaments, volleyball tournaments, local outreach projects, and helping during the festival and Vacation Church School.

HOPE/JOY ~ This group serves our young boys and girls in Pre-school up to 6th grade. We plan lots of fun events to bring our children together in fellowship and to continue to grow in their faith.

Vacation Church School ~ This one week-long summer program offers our children ages 4 years old up to those entering 6th grade the opportunity to learn in a fun environment with meaningful lessons about our faith. They make beautiful crafts and learn songs and hymns from our liturgical treasures. We are always in need of volunteers to teach and assist during the week’s program.

Altar Boys ~ These young men, 9 to 18 years old, assist the priests in the altar during divine services. They are organized into groups and put on a rotating schedule.

Choir ~ This group of volunteers, women and men, lead the congregation in the musical responses to the Divine Liturgy. It is open to all who are able to sing along and to practice during the regularly scheduled practices.

Parish Council ~ The parish council is the administrative and long-range planning body of the parish.  It is comprised of 11 parishioners/stewards, each elected for a two-year term, led by the executive committee and guided by the clergy.

B00kstore ~ The bookstore is open every Sunday during coffee hour making available for sale, books, icons, music and other materials related to our Orthodox faith and practice.
