Greek School Curriculum Guide
Kindergarten: To introduce the Greek language through simple songs, prayers and music. Through the use of vocabulary/visual aids the students will recognize the alphabet and learn sounds. Homework assignments are given.
1st – Level I: Know the alphabet and sounds. Be able to read in their level and build a vocabulary and maintain it. Basic grammar rules are introduced. Homework, lesson and unit tests are given.
2nd – Level II: Build a vocabulary and continue basic grammar: verbs, plurals and adjectives. Starting conversation. Homework, lesson and unit tests are given.
3rd – Level III: Beginning Level III, the student knows how to read and write in simple sentences. Spelling and dictation words are given every week. Grammar and conversation is emphasized. Weekly homework as well as lesson and unit tests.
4th – Level IIII: Concentration is placed on writing skills, grammar and vocabulary. History and culture are part of the curriculum. Homework, lesson and unit tests are given.
5th – Level V: Review of grammar, vocabulary and conversation are at a more intensive pace. Students are expected to write a composition and to engage in simple conversation. History and culture are part of the curriculum. Homework, lesson and unit tests are given.
Adult Classes: Focus is placed on reading, writing and speaking ordinary daily dialogues. Basic grammar, rules, speech, cyntax, translation and vocabulary are emphasized. Reading, listening and comprehension are part of the class. Homework is tiven every week.
